Golden Age Park is located in the densely packed downtown Los Angeles neighborhood of Westlake. With virtually zero space to create a park or garden, Golden Age Park started out like many of our parks and gardens—as an empty lot. It sat empty for nearly 30 years, save for illicit activity. The community wanted—and needed—a safe space to gather. In 2017, the park came to life when the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust partnered with community members to make it happen. With a senior center right next door, extra work went into planning and designing a park that would accommodate both seniors and families. Now, Golden Age Park serves as California’s first intergenerational park and serves the over 35,000 residents who live within a 10-minute walk.
The .17 acre-site continues to be owned and operated by LANLT and features a soft path for walking or running, a playground, exercise equipment, artwork and raised community garden beds. Community members helped design the park and even painted tiles for the entrance.
